A threnody is a wailing ode, song, hymn or poem of mourning composed or performed as a memorial for things or people that have passed.
Threnody is a performance project that sheds light on the body, loss of control, and physical pain. The intention of the performance is to create a situation where it is permissible to feel one's own and others' sorrow, and what it does to us. The performance can be interpreted as a physical manifestation of a mental state. The movements, the costume, the trace it leaves behind, and the sound that fills the room are the sorrow, the longing, the loneliness, the sense of being an outsider, and the powerlessness one feels when what once defined everything one was is torn away. In grief, there is rarely room for anything other than grief itself, something that the surroundings must also deal with.
During my exhibition period at Visningsrommet USF in april 2024 I held 3 performances with a length of 2-4 hours. The exhibition consisted of 6 sculptures, a video and 7 risoprints printed at Pamflett in Bergen.
The exhibition were supported by the City of Bergen.
Order is a series of performances and videos that describe the creation of own rituals that satisfy one's need for order and calm in an otherwise chaotic everyday life, where the need for perfection and control can only be manifested through repetition or physical activity.
Order describes the systems we create to create meaning and the work we put down to realize our goals and ourselves.
The video and performance series describes different actions, focusing mainly on challenging one's fears and hence finding peace of mind.
This project was completed with an exhibition at Visningsrommet ved USF in Bergen, where I exhibited with 5 video works, installation work and 2 performances that lasted throughout the week.
#order is the system we create to make sense. #order is the work we put into system in order to realize our goals and ourselves. #orders is pleasure within the strict ruling. #order is well-intention exhortations on how one should act. #order is redemption when we recreate the system into new shapes and forms. #order is work.

Indications, a collaborative project by Anette Friedrich Johannessen & Malin Nyheim Overholth
The exhibition “Indications” discussed themes relating to unspoken history and patterns that affect us in life. Anette Friedrich Johannessen and Malin Nyheim Overholth explored the theme in their own and different ways; through performance, Anette works with the rituals and systems in everyday situations and tasks, while Malin works with printmaking and investigates physical expressions of memories, structures of natural materials and local stories that can be connected to them.
My work consisted of a video-performance from an abandoned factory in Odda, Norway and an installation “ Limestone on Steel”.
The factory in Odda produced calcium cyanamide for use as fertilizer, along with other things. It had a severe impact on the community when it closed down in 2003,leaving many workers unemployed.
During the exhibition period I performed with limestone 3 times, with a duration of 20 minutes.

As a part of the ongoing project Overrett;
Forest meets Path meets Mountain meets Sea investigates navigation systems found in nature and how they can be taken into use inside a gallery space.
Each wooden object was made to represent a reference point such as signs and paths and other elements to make it accessible to move through the landscape. The shapes and colours and materials came from my own observations during the walks I have done in nature.
These objects could be transported around inside the space, so I could use them to create new paths with help from a compass and a notebook. In the notebook I wrote down where I would navigate within the space. Each route had a connection with one of the objects. For each new route I had to decide on what reference point to use. I used a pencil on the floor to make a start and end point. The rest of the route was marked with an X.
The length of the performances was approximately 4 hours.
For more photos documenting the performance go to the page named OVERRETT.
